I enjoy my imagination. It creates wonderful worlds to explore and live in for a spell. Thats how I came up with these. The whole idea of a once hidden, fantastical land and the items found there could be a lifetime of creation. I started here with some illustrations done 8 years previous. I did a few more, changed up the colors and voila!
These damn kids...
What can you say, every generation was misunderstood by the previous one. So how about celebrating the timeless commonality rather than the temporal differences?
The wonderful work of Vivian Maier →
I wonder of all the unsung genius around the world. The amazing talents banging away at their craft only to be discovered after they’re gone. Just a reminder to myself to “carpe diem”!

Amon Tobin Sydney Opera House 2012
I've been a fan of his music for a minute and I remember reading about this stage show when it first came out. I believe he was one of the first to use the projection mapping. Well , here is a taste of the thing. Still impressive.
Heineken does it right for 150 years.
Heineken took 10 years to develop. It was brewed to travel well (without going "off".) A great example of an excellent product meeting good brand marketing.
Electric Africa
I occasionally put on my futurist hat. Ah, to be Bill Gates rich.
The future of Africa is electric. Freed from the power grid, the continent's power independence grows organically. It is connected by the distance of a charge and each station along the thousands of miles has the potential to become a nexus of water, farming and ownership. The communities will be trained as stewards and there will be less want as the energy to be a part of the future is free. Poor is a frame of mind, a construct placed from the outside. If you can feed your family and watch your children learn, then you are rich. Africa is the sun.
A novel use of the iphone.
Anytime the wonder of technology can interact in the real world I'm in.
Green Wall
I was down in Dumbo helping a friend on a photo shoot (basically using my car as place to hold costumes and do makeup.) So while watching her work I noticed a pristine construction wall. So, I stood in front of it with my phone and watched people walk by. Got a few and I'm sure, if I'd waited longer I would've gotten at least one really amazing pic but I think these are ok.
Suspended Cycling Roundabout
While the destruction of the old to make way for the new is inevitable, things like this help the transition make sense. Rather than callously destroying the past for the new and soulless, it shows what the future may hold for all in spectacular fashion. Thumbs up!

My take on a retro style for American Black Film Festival. I may explore this further.
A Candelabra I dreamt about.
How often do you have dreams that dissipate within minutes of arising? This was not one of those moments. Although I can't remember the dream itself, I did wake up and had to sketch this idea for a modern candelabra, akin to the type a beautiful victim of Dracula might carry in the haunted mansion (if the mansion were a floor through loft in a glass tower in Tribeca.) Matte steel coated in hydrophobic material to repel dripping wax. The arms are adjustable for varied configurations.
WARRIORS REDUX (A Treatment for Mtn Dew)
Once upon a time an assignment came across my desk to write a treatment for branded advertising centered around the classic cult film "The Warriors." Although it never went anywhere, i was pretty geeked by the opportunity and I think I wrote a kickass little world. I made it slightly futuristic and quite dystopian yet I thought the parallel to contemporary times and issues were tight.
Retro futurist.
Love how this artist combines genres in a everyday manner. Magical!

Ten 3D printed houses in 24 hours!
This fellow is a product of the Chinese educational system. Amazing what happens when a country realizes it's most powerful resource is the minds of it's young people.
Some photos I took.
A compilation of a few of my favorite photos.
Assorted light and dark
Screen grabs as I did research for stuff. There is something other than light/dark that hangs these three together, I just can't put my finger on it.
"Indigenous"
You never notice them until they're gone. Those folks who gave color to the block, the ones who knew the ins and outs, the flow of a once vibrant community. Now they live on the periphery, far from their old hunting grounds. The stoops look lonely without them. All illustrations ©Paul James
The Gap →
As my first post on this new blog, I'd like to remind myself (and anyone that comes across this) that if you strive to be create what you imagine, the gap between what you envision and what you execute can be an experience in humility. But like they say "Every journey starts with... " well, you know the rest.
